Website privacy
Last updated: 14 September 2026. This page covers the public Tales in Melody website. The membership privacy policy explains account information, connected platforms, membership services and Google data in more detail.
Browsing this website
You can browse the public catalogue and read lyrics without an account. Search and fandom filters run in your browser; your search terms are not sent to a search service. This website does not set advertising or analytics cookies.
YouTube API Services: information and purposes
We use YouTube API Services to read our channel’s public video identifiers, availability, thumbnails, release information, featured video, playlists and view counts. Our background services store and process this information to display playable releases, choose the featured song, group songs by playlist and order the popular-song selection. The resulting public catalogue is published on this website and can be seen by any visitor. It contains no member identities, private requests or sign-in credentials.
Video availability and featured-video checks normally run every 15 minutes; playlist contents are refreshed at least hourly, and public view counts daily or when a release changes the catalogue. During a failed update we retain the last verified version rather than publish incomplete results. These update schedules describe the current catalogue, not a deletion schedule for all historical records.
Browsing does not require a Google account. If you choose to sign in through YouTube, the member portal receives your channel ID, channel name and verified Google e-mail address to identify your connected account and provide its features. These details are stored privately and are not added to public pages. Our membership privacy policy explains their use, sharing, storage and your choices. See our terms for YouTube features and Google’s privacy policy.
How information is processed and shared
The Tales in Melody owner and authorized staff use information only as needed to operate the site, answer enquiries, handle requested services and investigate problems. Public catalogue information and anonymous aggregate counters help the owner maintain the music catalogue and understand which features are useful. Account preferences and private messages are not public browsing statistics. We do not sell Google user data, use it for advertising, or use it to train general-purpose AI models.
- Cloudflare delivers public pages and artwork and processes IP addresses and technical request information for delivery and security. It also stores encrypted private portal backups and protected audio. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
- Our VPS hosting provider, Hetzner, hosts the background catalogue services, contact processing, private account database and anonymous counters. The public static website does not receive the private account database.
- Google processes YouTube sign-in and video playback, hosts the restricted Google API connection services and encrypted recovery backups, and delivers contact messages to our channel Gmail inbox. Google receives the information needed for those operations.
- Patreon and Discord are used when you choose the corresponding membership or community features. Patreon verifies memberships; Discord processes connected role information and service requests in a restricted staff area. The membership policy describes these flows.
Providers process information for their services under their own terms and privacy policies, potentially outside your country. We may disclose information when required by law. The public Supporter wall displays a chosen name only after the member opts in.
YouTube videos and external platforms
Song pages embed YouTube videos using its privacy-enhanced mode. Loading a YouTube thumbnail or embedded player, and playing a video, connects your browser to YouTube and shares connection and device information. Playback is governed by Google’s privacy policy. YouTube may serve advertisements and use cookies or similar technology under its own policies. We do not control YouTube’s advertising or account settings. Links to YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music and Patreon take you to those services, which have their own privacy practices.
Contact and data requests
If you email us or use the contact form, we use your name, address and message to respond to your enquiry and handle the request you make. Form messages are delivered to our channel inbox, where the owner and staff handling the enquiry can access them. Short-lived form tokens, sending limits and a daily rotating hash of your connection address help prevent spam.
For access, correction, disconnection or deletion of information held by Tales in Melody, contact talesinmelodyyt@gmail.com. We verify account ownership when handling private account data. You can revoke Google access in Google Account connections. Deleting our stored data does not delete videos, comments or other information held by YouTube; manage those directly on YouTube. The membership policy explains benefit records and account choices.
Saved songs and anonymous statistics
Without signing in, your saved song identifiers are kept in this browser’s local storage. When signed in, saved songs are private preferences stored on your account; available songs previously saved in this browser are added to that account. Your account list survives clearing cookies or using another device. Use the heart control to remove a saved song. Clearing browser storage removes the guest list, but does not delete an account’s saved songs or grant access to MP3 downloads.
The public website checks whether your member session is active and uses authenticated requests to the member portal to display and update your saved songs. Session credentials stay restricted to the membership host. Your favourites are not combined with anonymous browsing statistics.
To understand which parts of the website are useful, we count page views, playback starts and clicks on website links to YouTube, membership or free Patreon joining. Clicks inside the embedded YouTube player are not included in our link counters. Counters contain a date, page category, public song identifier and broad referral category such as search or YouTube. They do not include search terms, full referring URLs, account details, advertising identifiers or a persistent visitor identifier. They are not combined with your membership account. Short-lived event identifiers and in-memory request limits prevent duplicate requests and abuse; event identifiers and connection addresses are not stored in the statistics database. Aggregate counts do not identify individual listeners.
Playback is counted after the visible YouTube player starts, using its official player API. Analytics failures do not prevent playback. We respect Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control, and you can disable our counters in this browser below. Hosting providers still process connection information for delivery and security.
