I Choose the Light

Star Wars · Anakin & Qui-Gon

The story in the song

What if Qui-Gon survived and raised Anakin? I Choose the Light is an original Star Wars what-if song about Anakin & Qui-Gon: a teacher who stays, a boy who learns to love without possession, and a future changed by one choice.

An intimate opening grows into an orchestral rock ballad with two male voices and choir, following Anakin from childhood to the family he refuses to lose himself trying to protect.

Lyrics

You freed a boy. You stayed to raise a man. A scar beneath your robe remained; You heard the boy who dreamed in chains. I chased tomorrow, wild with fear; You brought me back: the Force is here. We paid to set my mother free; She crossed the ramp and reached for me. You cannot own the ones you love. An open hand is strong enough. I choose the light! I choose the light! Though the dark still knows my name. I can love with open hands; I won't turn that love to chains. You called me chosen, Then taught me to choose. I choose the light, With so much left to lose. The war still filled the skies with flame; I knew the fallen clones by name. I wanted blood for every grave; You asked me who that blood would save. I told you of my secret bride, And dreams in which I watched her die. I cannot promise who you'll save. But fear must never hold the blade. I choose the light! I choose the light! Though the dark still knows my name. I can love with open hands; I won't turn that love to chains. You called me chosen, Then taught me to choose. I choose the light, With so much left to lose. The chancellor swore she would not die; For one dark breath, I craved the lie. But love won't make a slave of me - I won't buy hope with cruelty. I stood with Windu, side by side; We faced the storm. The Sith Lord died. I choose the light! I choose the light! Though the dark still knows my name. I can love with open hands; I won't turn that love to chains. You called me chosen, Then taught me to choose. I choose the light, With so much left to lose. The Temple's children greet the sun. The war is over, not undone. I left the Order, not the light. Padmé holds our twins tonight. I kneel beside them as they grow: Love holds a hand, then lets it go.
