Stay for Me

The Elder Scrolls · Serana & Dragonborn

The story in the song

In Skyrim, Serana and the Dragonborn have faced death, prophecy and a family torn apart. Stay for Me imagines a romance beyond Dawnguard: when the fighting ends, they choose each other and a little home beside the lake. This is a fan interpretation of their relationship.

Lyrics

When there is nothing left to save... Would you still stay for me? In Dimhollow, beneath the stone, I woke to steel and violet light. An Elder Scroll, a world unknown, A stranger standing in the night. I thought my home was walls and towers, A castle on a bitter sea. But stone could never keep me safe - And you kept making room for me. I slowed my step to match your own; No road was yours to walk alone. Let them call you Dragonborn - I only want you here with me. Let them fear the night you carry - You are all the light I need. When the last blade has been lowered, When the whole wide world can breathe, Not for blood and not for glory... Stay for me. We crossed the Soul Kairn's fields of bone; Your frost held death away from me. Your mother only saw a stranger - You knew the friend she couldn't see. Through the Forgotten Vale we climbed; I learnt your silence like a song. You'd curse the sun; I'd hide a smile, And wish the road were twice as long. My father chose a sunless throne; I chose to stand with you and fight. We watched his power turn to ash - But freedom still felt cold that night. You didn't ask me for a smile. You sat beside me for a while. Let them call you Dragonborn - I only want you here with me. Let them fear the night you carry - You are all the light I need. When the last blade has been lowered, When the whole wide world can breathe, Not for blood and not for glory... Stay for me. The seasons turned; your hand found mine. We found our peace between the fights. I kissed you first beneath the pines - You held me through the northern lights. I've shouted dragons from the sky, Yet lost my words when you drew near. I couldn't find a hero's vow - So whispered, "Love, I'm staying here." A little house beside the lake, Two weathered cloaks beside the door. A map of roads we've yet to take - And evenings worth returning for. No temple. No altar. Just your hand in mine. I love you. Let that be the vow. Let them call you Dragonborn - I only want you here with me. Let them fear the night you carry - You are all the light I need. When the last blade has been lowered, When the whole wide world can breathe, Not for blood and not for glory... Stay for me. Stay for me... Stay with me... And when there's nothing left to save? I'll still be here with you. No prophecy. Just us.
